Open House Highlights Tourism & Hospitality Workforce

15 December 2025 | Press Release | By: Martha Connolly

The Ministry of Caymanian Employment & Immigration (Ministry of CEI) has engaged in a series of workforce initiatives that are expanding Caymanian participation across Tourism and other key sectors of the national economy following the Tourism & Hospitality Open House hosted in September.

To further support job readiness, a special outreach initiative—developed using Workforce Opportunities & Residency Cayman (WORC’s) database and input from business stakeholders—identified 100 Caymanians who indicated that they are “job-ready”. The Ministry of CEI partnered with Cayman Islands Tourism Association (CITA) who hosted an intensive career-coaching and professional-development workshop and invited those 100 participants to participate. The workshop focused on interview preparation, résumé development, networking techniques, and identifying suitable career pathways based on individual strengths and interests.

Another significant outcome was the successful recruitment of seven (7) residents from Cayman Brac who travelled to Grand Cayman to participate received offers for full-time employment within the hospitality and tourism industry, reflecting both the demand for local talent and the readiness of Caymanians to step into meaningful career opportunities.

Minister for Caymanian Employment & Immigration Hon. Michael Myles said, “The Ministry remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering strong partnerships across the private sector. We welcome and encourage greater collaboration with businesses to create structured training, meaningful employment opportunities, and sustainable career pathways for all Caymanians.”

The Ministry has also recently launched a National Workforce Development Committee which, in the coming months, is tasked with helping develop a forward-looking National Workforce Development Plan to maximize employment and employment advancement opportunities for Caymanians.

The Ministry of CEI continues to make inroads into providing opportunities for more Caymanians to prepare for and access employment and growth opportunities within the Tourism industry. Such efforts include ongoing discussions with properties due to open in 2026 as well as working with individual employers within the industry who have identified staffing needs and challenges.

These initiatives collectively reaffirm the Government’s commitment to ensuring that Caymanians are supported, empowered, and placed at the centre of the nation’s economic development.
