Ministry Partnership Creates Pathways for Caymanians

19 December 2025 | Press Release | By: Tatiana Ramoon

The Ministry of Caymanian Employment and Immigration is pleased to share the positive results of its recent partnership with ONE | GT, following the completion of a six-week programme aimed at helping Caymanians access employment opportunities in the hospitality sector.

Following the Tourism and Hospitality Career Open House held in September 2025, eight (8) formal offers were made outright to Caymanians by ONE | GT. As a direct outcome of the Open House, ONE | GT developed the Mindset Programme where participants benefited from:

  • Industry-specific training and professional development
  • Improved readiness to apply for roles at ONE | GT and other hospitality properties across the Cayman Islands
  • A clear and practical pathway from exposure to employment for local talent
  • Continued learning and development within a supportive work environment

Of the 48 candidates who were invited to participate in the programme, a total of 28 individuals registered. 20 candidates successfully commenced and completed the six-week programme, and demonstrated a high level of engagement, consistency, and commitment. As a result, thirteen (13) participants were offered full-time employment across various departments within ONE | GT. The other seven (7) participants were offered a three-month paid apprenticeship which will provide them with structured, on-the-job training and further skills development. This apprenticeship pathway allows participants to continue gaining experience while remaining eligible for future full-time employment opportunities.

Commenting on the programme, Hon. Michael Myles, Minister for Caymanian Employment and Immigration, stated: “This partnership with ONE | GT is another example of what can be achieved when government and the private sector work together with a shared commitment to Caymanian employment. Thank you to ONE | GT for its investment in developing local talent. I strongly encourage other employers to adopt similar initiatives.”

ONE | GT General Manager, Andrew Barlow said, “We are building a community-focused hotel with a soul and culture heavily rooted in Caymanian heritage and the island’s past, present, and future. To achieve this, it is essential that Caymanians work with us to represent the Islands to our guests. I am thankful to each and every person who attended the Hospitality Mindset programme, and I am delighted that they have chosen to continue their career journeys with us to make ONE | GT Hotel & Residences a success. On behalf of my team, I would like to extend our gratitude to the Honourable Michael Myles and the Ministry of Caymanian Employment & Immigration for their partnership in this highly successful initiative."

The Ministry of Caymanian Employment and Immigration remains committed to supporting initiatives that build skills, encourage employer engagement, and create sustainable employment opportunities for Caymanians across all sectors of the economy.
