Regiment Ends Sanitation Operations in West Bay

Avian Influenza Added to List of Notifiable Diseases Under Public Health Act
Following confirmation of H5N1 Avian Influenza in birds at a farm in West Bay, Grand Cayman, the Cayman Islands Government approved on 3 December an amendment to the Public Health Act (2021 Revision) to make clear that Avian Influenza is a notifiable disease.

Public Health
Public Health is a service delivered on behalf of the Cayman Islands Government by the Health Services Authority.Through five satellite health centres - one for each district in Grand Cayman - the Community Health Services provides primary care across the island.
Services provided through the district health centres include general practice, immunisations, maternal and child health care, health education and support of disabled patients in their homes. Home visiting services are also provided.
Public Health programmes include:
- Health advice and vaccines for international travellers;
- School Health including primary care, health assessments, vision and hearing tests etc.
- Nutrition and dietary counselling clinics;
- Child health including growth and development monitoring,
- Communicable disease screening;
- Disease control programmes, including surveillance, immunisation (adults and children); and
- Special programmes relating to Genetics and Sexual health.

H5N1 Advisory for Farmers and Poultry Owners
H5N1 Avian Flu has been detected among a select number of birds on Grand Cayman. Public Health and the Department of Agriculture are actively monitoring the situation, surveying the area and carrying out containment activities. Farmers and poultry owners are asked to take the following precautions to prevent further transmission among bird populations and reduce personal exposure risk.
Community Advisory - Prevent the Transmission of H5N1 Avian Flu
H5N1 Avian Flu has been detected among a select number of birds on Grand Cayman. Public Health and the Department of Agriculture are actively monitoring the situation and conducting containment activities. Decontamination stations have been established for prevention. Risk to the general public remains low. Follow the guidance below to prevent exposure.

Understanding the prevalence of risk factors for non-communicable diseases in the Cayman Islands. The survey clearly captured the health status of the Cayman Islands and it highlights gaps in care that need to be addressed.
